Working Alongside AI Agents
Agents are becoming part of the team. Planning for a mix of people and agents is mostly a management question.
The interesting question is not whether agents replace people. It is how a team works when some of its members are software.
It is a management problem
Once an agent handles part of a workflow, you have to decide who owns its output, who reviews it, and what happens when it is wrong. Those are the same questions you ask about a new hire. The tools are new. The management is not.
What we tell teams
- Give each agent a narrow, well-defined job.
- Make it obvious which work came from an agent.
- Keep a person accountable for the outcome.
The shift
The people who do best treat agents like junior colleagues: useful, fast, and in need of clear direction and review. The org chart gets a few new roles. The work of leading it stays human.
